Most fat burners help to preserve muscle whilst burning fat. To help maintain maximum muscle while dieting, ensure to eat lots of protein, take creatine and obviously keep training effectively.

If you are taking a mass gainer, then you shouldn't be taking a fat burner. You have to decide whether you are training to gain muscle or to lose fat. If you try to do both at the same time, your results will likely be poor.
