Q How much does 500yg mean in international units? Is it 20,000? Is the daily intake of vit D3 rda 400iu? For hard training athletes 2500-6000iu. 20,000iu seems excessive or have I miscalculated? Thanks in advance

Every 5mcg (ug)(microgram) is equal to 200IU (international units). So 50mcg (as in this product) is 2000IU. Currently, there are epidemic levels of vitamin D defficiency, especially in cloudy places where there is a distinct winter period. This has caused experts and health authorities around the world to re-consider and increase recommendations. Your supplemental intake should reflect where you live and how much sun you get on exposed skin (and if you use sunscreen when you go into the sun) because vitamin D is activated by sunshine and you simply can't obtain enough through diet alone. So if you live in the UK, especially Scotland or Ireland, you should probably be taking 1000-2000 IU daily in the winter and spring and 400-1000 IU in the summer and autumn. I wouldn't want to recommend too much more than 2000 IU unless you were quite sure that you're defficient and I would only take that amount for up to 6 months to re-normalize your blood levels.
